Zakat Calculator India — Nisab in Indian Rupees (INR)

For Indian Muslims, the first and most important step in any zakat calculation is knowing the nisab — the minimum wealth threshold — in Indian Rupees. The nisab is fixed by Islamic law in terms of gold and silver weight, but its rupee value changes every day as gold and silver prices move on international markets.

In 2026, with gold trading at approximately ₹8,540 per gram and silver at ₹85.40 per gram, the nisab values in India are as follows. Use the Live Nisab Tracker to get today’s exact figure in INR.

Nisab StandardWeightINR Value (2026)Used For
🥇 Gold Nisab87.48 grams / 7.5 tola~₹7,47,000Gold holdings specifically
🥈 Silver Nisab612.36 grams / 52.5 tola~₹52,290Cash, salary savings, mixed assets
Which nisab should Indian Muslims use? For cash savings, salary, and mixed investments, most scholars recommend the silver nisab (~₹52,290). This means if your total net zakatable wealth exceeds ₹52,290 and has been held for one full lunar year, Zakat is due. The ZakatSuite calculator checks this automatically.

Zakat on Salary Calculator — India 2026

One of the most commonly asked questions among Indian Muslims — especially salaried professionals — is whether Zakat is due on their monthly salary and how to calculate it correctly. The answer requires understanding a key distinction: Zakat is not a tax on income. It is an obligation on accumulated savings that have been held above the nisab for one full lunar year.

The Correct Approach to Salary Zakat

Your monthly salary is not zakatable the day it arrives in your account. What is zakatable is the portion of your total savings that remains at the end of your Hawl year — i.e., money you earned, did not spend, and have held for 354 days or more above the nisab threshold.

📅

Set a Fixed Zakat Date

Choose one date each year — 1st Ramadan is most common among Indian Muslims. On that date, calculate your total savings, deduct liabilities, check nisab and pay 2.5%.

💰

Include All Savings

Savings account balance, fixed deposits, cash at home, PF contributions (accessible portion), and any investments in stocks or mutual funds — all included in your Zakat computation.

📉

Deduct What You Owe

EMIs due this month, credit card balance, rent due, any immediate debts — these can be deducted before calculating Zakat. Your home loan principal is not fully deductible — only this year’s installment.

Apply 2.5% If Above Nisab

If your net savings exceed the silver nisab (~₹52,290 in 2026), pay 2.5% of the total. Use ZakatSuite’s calculator in INR for an exact figure.

₹5,00,000/mo₹18,00,000₹30,00,000₹48,00,000₹1,20,000

*Estimated savings at 30% of salary. Actual zakat depends on your real savings, gold, liabilities and Hawl date. Use the Advanced Zakat Calculator for your exact amount.

Important: If you received a bonus, inheritance, or gift during the year — include those in your savings total on your Zakat date. They are part of your zakatable wealth even if they arrived mid-year and join your existing Hawl cycle.

What About Provident Fund (PF) and Gratuity?

EPF (Employee Provident Fund) contributions and gratuity are areas where scholars differ. The majority contemporary view is that the portion you can actually withdraw and access is zakatable. The locked-in, employer-contributed portion that you cannot access yet is generally not zakatable until it becomes accessible. Consult a qualified scholar for your specific PF situation — and use ZakatSuite’s Pension Fund tool as a starting point.

Zakat al-Fitr Calculator 2026 — India (INR)

Zakat al-Fitr — also called Sadaqah al-Fitr or Fitrana — is a separate and distinct obligation from the annual Zakat on wealth. It is due on every Muslim at the end of Ramadan, before the Eid al-Fitr prayer. It is obligatory on every free Muslim who possesses food beyond their immediate needs — and it must be paid on behalf of every member of the household, including children and dependents.

Key Rules for Zakat al-Fitr in India

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Pay for Every Person in Your Household

The head of household pays Zakat al-Fitr for every dependent — spouse, children (including newborns), elderly parents living under the same roof. One amount per person.

📅

Deadline — Before Eid Prayer

Zakat al-Fitr must be paid before the Eid al-Fitr prayer begins. It can be paid anytime during Ramadan — paying it 2-3 days early is recommended so recipients can use it for Eid preparations.

🌾

Food or Cash — Both Valid

Originally paid in staple food (wheat, rice, dates, barley). Contemporary scholars widely permit cash equivalent based on the price of the staple food in your area. Most Indian Islamic organizations accept cash.

🕌

Who Is Exempt?

A person who does not possess food beyond their immediate needs on Eid day is exempt from paying Zakat al-Fitr — and also qualifies to receive it. The threshold is much lower than annual Zakat nisab.
