Colombo Ramadan Calendar 2027 — Sehri & Iftar Times

This is the complete Ramadan 2027 calendar for Colombo, Sri Lanka, Sehri, Sunrise, Dhuhr, both Asr times, Iftar and Isha for each of the month's thirty days, 8 February 2027 to Tue, 9 Mar 2027. Expected boundaries for Sri Lanka: a first fast on Monday 8 February 2027, subject to the crescent, and Eid al-Fitr around 9–10 March 2027. Day 1 in Colombo runs from Fajr at 05:17 to Maghrib at 18:21 — a fast of 13 hours 4 minutes — and by day 30 those bookends have moved to 05:11 and 18:22, a fast of 13 hours 11 minutes. Times are calculated for Colombo itself using the Muslim World League method (Asia/Colombo), so if you live elsewhere in Sri Lanka your local times may differ by a few minutes — the further you are from Colombo, the more you should prefer your local mosque's published timetable.

Each row of the Colombo table is one fast: the fast begins at Fajr, so Sehri — the pre-dawn meal the Prophet ﷺ called a blessing — must finish by the Fajr time in the Sehri column, 05:17 on day 1 and 05:11 on day 30, and many families stop eating a few minutes earlier as a precaution. Nothing is eaten or drunk from Fajr until Maghrib, when the fast is broken at the Iftar time, traditionally with dates and water before the Maghrib prayer. In Colombo that wait is 13 hours 4 minutes on the first day and 13 hours 11 minutes on the last. The drift is the reason the table exists row by row: Sitting close to the equator (latitude 6.9), Colombo sees only gentle changes across the month — dawn and sunset move by minutes rather than hours, and the fast stays close to 13 hours 4 minutes from the first row to the last. Inside these rows sit the odd nights of the last ten days — opening at Maghrib on 27 February, 1, 3, 5 and 7 March — when Laylat al-Qadr is sought; the 27th night opens at Maghrib on 5 March, which in Colombo is the 18:22 Iftar of Ramadan day 26's row, and its fast follows at Fajr 05:12.

Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali times in Colombo

The madhab selector on the live page exists for exactly one column. Sehri (Fajr) and Iftar (Maghrib) are shared by Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali alike — in Colombo that is 05:17 and 18:21 on the first day and 05:11 and 18:22 on the last. Asr is the difference: 15:46 on day 1 for Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali (shadow equal to length), 16:42 for Hanafi (shadow twice the length), a gap of 56 minutes that widens or narrows only slightly by day 30 (15:37 against 16:40, 63 minutes). A household in Colombo that mixes madhabs can therefore share one calendar honestly: one Sehri, one Iftar, and two Asr times, each person praying by their own school.

Jafari Sehri and Iftar times in Colombo

Jafari (Shia) times are shown in their own tab on the live page, not mixed into the table above. Applied to Colombo: day 1 Sehri 05:07 (Fajr 05:17 minus 10) and Iftar 18:33 (Maghrib 18:21 plus 12); day 30 Sehri 05:01 and Iftar 18:34. Where your own marja's ruling differs from the 10/12-minute convention, follow that ruling; the tab exists to make the common practice easy to find, not to settle a point of taqlid.

Duas for Sehri and Iftar

Dua at Sehri (intention): Wa bi-sawmi ghadin nawytu min shahri Ramadan — "I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan." Dua at Iftar: Allahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika aamantu wa 'alayka tawakkaltu wa 'ala rizqika aftartu — "O Allah, I fasted for You, I believe in You, I trust in You, and I break my fast with the provision You have given." Keep both short duas by the table in Colombo: the first is said quietly with the intention before Fajr (05:17 on day 1), the second at the moment of Iftar, with dates and water, before the Maghrib prayer. In the last ten nights add the Laylat al-Qadr dua taught by the Prophet: Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni — "O Allah, You are Pardoning and You love pardon, so pardon me."

Notes on this calendar

About these times in Colombo: every time is calculated for Colombo's coordinates (6.93, 79.86) in the Asia/Colombo time zone, using the Muslim World League method — the convention customary for Sri Lanka. Mosques in Colombo may differ by a minute or two where they add a precaution at Fajr or Maghrib; that difference is deliberate, not an error, and the mosque you pray with is the timetable to follow on the day.

Why thirty rows when Ramadan may end at twenty-nine? Because the month is completed at 30 only when the Shawwal crescent stays unseen on the 29th evening. The table prints all thirty so both endings are covered: an Eid announced in Sri Lanka after 29 fasts retires the last row unused, and its 18:22 Iftar in Colombo never happens. If Sri Lanka's start is announced a day later than 8 February 2027, the whole table shifts by one row — the times move with the dates. Method differences show up at the edges of the day — the Muslim World League Fajr of 05:17 and Isha of 19:28 on day 1 are convention, while Dhuhr (12:25), Asr and Maghrib are the sun itself, which is why rival tables agree on Iftar and quarrel politely over Sehri.

A practical closing note for Colombo: the month's fasts here span 13 hours 4 minutes to 13 hours 11 minutes. That is manageable for most healthy adults, but illness, medication, pregnancy and travel each carry their own ruling, and no timetable can see your circumstances. The exemptions, and the Fidya and Qaza that follow from them, are covered in the guides linked below; when in doubt, ask a scholar rather than abandoning the fast or harming your health. May Allah accept your fasts, your night prayers and your giving this month.

Frequently asked questions

When does Ramadan 2027 start in Colombo?

Planning in Colombo runs on Monday 8 February 2027 as the first day of Ramadan 1448 AH, with the month opening the night before — always subject to the crescent and to the announcement Sri Lanka's authorities or communities follow. If the crescent is not sighted on the expected evening, day 1's times (05:17 Fajr, 18:21 Maghrib in Colombo) would simply attach to the following Gregorian date.

What are the Sehri and Iftar times in Colombo on the first day of Ramadan 2027?

On day 1 (Mon, 8 Feb 2027, 1 Ramaḍān 1448), Sehri ends at Fajr, at 05:17 (Mon, 8 Feb 2027), and the fast is broken at Maghrib 18:21. Eat and drink before that time; the fast then runs 13 hours 4 minutes until Maghrib. Across the thirty rows the Sehri deadline travels from 05:17 to 05:11, which is why the table prints every day separately.

Which calculation method does the Colombo Ramadan calendar use?

This calendar uses the Muslim World League method, the convention customary in Sri Lanka, with times computed for Colombo (Asia/Colombo, 6.93, 79.86). Fajr gives the Sehri end time and Maghrib gives Iftar; the method's sun angles are what fix Fajr at 05:17 and Isha at 19:28 on day 1, while Dhuhr (12:25) and Maghrib follow the sun directly. Communities and mosques occasionally adjust by a minute or two for precaution, so treat your local mosque's timetable as final where it differs slightly. A branded PDF calendar for Colombo, in the madhab you select, can be downloaded from the live version of this page.

Why are there two Asr times for Colombo, and which one should I use?

Asr is where the madhab choice shows up in Colombo's table — Sehri and Iftar do not change. In Colombo on day 1 that is 15:46 for Shafi'i, Maliki and Hanbali worshippers and 16:42 for Hanafi worshippers — 56 minutes apart. The difference comes from the shadow rule: the first three schools begin Asr when an object's shadow equals its length (besides the noon shadow), while the Hanafi school waits until the shadow is twice the length. Follow the madhab you normally pray by, and use the same column all month so your Taraweeh and Iftar routine stays consistent.

What is the longest fast in Colombo during Ramadan 2027?

In Colombo the month peaks on day 26: 13 hours 11 minutes from Fajr 05:12 to Maghrib 18:23 (Fri, 5 Mar 2027). Day 1 lasts 13 hours 4 minutes and the last day 13 hours 11 minutes, with the shortest fast — day 1, 13 hours 4 minutes — in between. Sitting close to the equator (latitude 6.9), Colombo sees only gentle changes across the month — dawn and sunset move by minutes rather than hours, and the fast stays close to 13 hours 4 minutes from the first row to the last.

What are the Jafari (Shia) Sehri and Iftar times in Colombo?

On the Jafari fiqh convention used alongside this calendar, Sehri is taken 10 minutes before Fajr as a precaution and Iftar is taken 12 minutes after Maghrib. On day 1 in Colombo that means Sehri by 05:07 (Fajr 05:17 minus 10 minutes) and Iftar at 18:33 (Maghrib 18:21 plus 12 minutes). The main table itself is unchanged — it prints the Fajr and Maghrib every fiqh starts from, and the Jafari figures are a clearly labelled adjustment to those two moments only; Asr, Dhuhr and Isha are not moved.
