Ramadan 2027 Countdown, Dates & Zakat Guide

Ramadan 1448 AH is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, subject to the sighting of the new moon — the announcement of your own country's authorities or community is the one to act on. The month is expected to run to a last fast on 8 or 9 March 2027, with Eid al-Fitr following on 9–10 March 2027. This hub gathers everything ZakatSuite publishes for the month in one place: the countdown and how it works, the key dates including the Laylat al-Qadr nights, full Sehri and Iftar timetables for 144 cities, the complete Ramadan 2027 guide series, and the calculators for the duties — Zakat itself, Fidya, Kaffarah and Fitrana — that cluster around the fast.

How the countdown works

The countdown on the live page counts to the evening that opens Ramadan: the fast begins at Fajr on the first day, but the month itself begins at Maghrib the night before, when Taraweeh is first prayed. Because the Islamic calendar is lunar, the predicted date rests on astronomical calculation of the new moon's visibility, and a difference of one day between countries is entirely normal — some sight the crescent locally, some follow a regional sighting, and some follow calculation. Treat 8 February 2027 as the planning date, keep the evening of 7 February free of doubt in your diary, and confirm with your community's announcement before the first night. If the month is announced a day later, every date in the timetable section shifts by one day with it.

Key dates of Ramadan 2027

Laylat al-Qadr — the last ten nights

The Prophet ﷺ directed the search for Laylat al-Qadr — the night worth more than a thousand months (Quran 97:3) — to the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan. In 2027 those nights begin at Maghrib on 27 February, 1, 3, 5 and 7 March. The strongest expectation attaches to the 27th night, from Maghrib on 5 March, but the wisdom of hiding the exact night is that the whole ten are honoured: prayer, Quran, dua and charity spread across all of them. Many worshippers also spend some of these nights in Itikaf in the mosque, which traditionally begins before Maghrib on the day of 20 Ramadan. Our Laylat al-Qadr planner tool and guide help you plan the nights realistically around work and family, rather than attempting everything on one night and sleeping through the rest.

Paying Zakat in Ramadan

Zakat itself is not a Ramadan duty by calendar — it falls due on your own hawl anniversary — but Ramadan is the month most Muslims choose for it, because deeds in it are multiplied and because the need of the poor is most visible in it. Paying before your hawl is permitted by the majority, so aligning your Zakat year to Ramadan is a sound and common practice; paying after the hawl without excuse is not. If your Zakat is due in Ramadan 2027, calculate it with live Nisab values — at the reference prices behind this site the silver Nisab is about USD 600 — and distribute it across the month or concentrate it in the last ten nights as you prefer. Separately from annual Zakat, three Ramadan payments catch people out: Fidya, owed by those who cannot fast and cannot make the fasts up, at one poor person's daily food cost per missed day; Kaffarah, the heavy expiation for a deliberately broken fast; and Fitrana, one sa' of staple food or its local cash value for every household member, due before the Eid prayer. Each has a calculator on this site and a full guide in the blog series below.
