Ramadan 2027 in the USA: Dates, Moon Sighting and City Timetables

Ramadan 2027 in the United States is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, with the first fast that day and Eid al-Fitr expected on 9–10 March 2027. Every date on this page is an expected date, subject to the sighting of the moon: if the crescent is sighted a day later in your community, the month starts a day later, and the timetables shift with it.

This guide is the Ramadan companion to the United States Zakat page. That page covers Zakat in dollars; this page covers the month itself — start dates, moon sighting, first-day Sehri and Iftar times for ten US cities, and how to get your city's full 30-day timetable. It lists no mosques or events: for those, your local mosque is the reliable source.

When does Ramadan 2027 start in the USA?

On the calculated calendar, the first fast of Ramadan 1448 AH falls on Monday 8 February 2027, with taraweeh beginning the evening before. The month runs 29 or 30 days, and Eid al-Fitr is expected on 9–10 March 2027: the 9th if the Shawwal crescent is sighted after 29 fasts, the 10th if the month completes 30 days.

The timetable data behind this site runs from 8 February to 9 March 2027, built from each city's own coordinates, time zone and calculation method — not a national approximation. If your community starts a day later, treat every date in the table as moving one day later, and confirm final dates with your local mosque.

Moon sighting in the United States

There is no single nationwide body that sets the Ramadan start date for every American Muslim, which is why neighbouring mosques sometimes begin on different days. Some mosques announce from a local moon-sighting effort, while others follow an announcement from elsewhere. Both are widely practised, and neither is a mistake — they are different, sincere ways of applying the rule that the month begins with the sighting of the crescent.

Follow your own mosque's announcement, and do not be surprised if the mosque across town starts a day apart. For planning — time off, family iftars, groceries — use the expected dates here and keep the first and last days flexible until your mosque confirms. City timetables here use the ISNA method in the timetable data; your mosque may use another method, which can move Sehri and Iftar by a few minutes, so its timetable settles any close difference on the day.

How long is the fast in the USA?

February is still winter in most of the United States, so Ramadan 2027 fasts are on the shorter side: on the first day, the fast runs from about eleven and a half hours to just over twelve hours across the ten cities below, with southern cities fasting slightly longer.

Differences between cities come from latitude and time zone together, which is why a single national time never works. Pick your city below for exact first-day times, then open its full timetable for all thirty days.

Zakat in the USA

Ramadan is when most Muslims pay their Zakat, and in the United States that means dollars. The Nisab — 87.48 grams of gold or 612.36 grams of silver — is converted into dollars at live metal prices, so the dollar figure is only meaningful on the day you calculate. The calculator handles that conversion in USD and produces a PDF record.

Zakat is due on your hawl anniversary — one lunar year of holding wealth at or above the Nisab — and many people deliberately move payment into Ramadan, which is permitted. Zakat al-Fitr (Fitrana) is separate: owed for every household member, it should reach recipients before the Eid prayer. For the full calculation in dollars, use the calculator linked below; for the country-level picture, see the United States Zakat page.

Planning the month

Start with your city's full timetable: thirty days of Sehri (Fajr), Sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, Iftar (Maghrib) and Isha, with both Asr columns side by side — Hanafi Asr falls later than the other three Sunni madhabs — plus a clearly labelled Jafari tab. Any city page offers a branded PDF calendar in your madhab, with the Sehri and Iftar duas and Laylat al-Qadr nights marked.

Around the timetables, the Ramadan Zone carries the rest of the month: a live iftar countdown, the Eid countdown, daily duas, a Ramadan quiz, and guides on what breaks the fast, exemptions, Fidya, Kaffarah, Taraweeh and Itikaf. The Ramadan hub gathers it all.

Frequently asked questions

When does Ramadan 2027 start in the USA?

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, with the first fast that day and Eid al-Fitr expected on 9–10 March 2027. Both dates are subject to moon sighting: if the crescent is sighted a day later in your community, the month starts a day later.

Why might my mosque start on a different day from another mosque nearby?

There is no single nationwide body that sets the date for every American Muslim. Some mosques announce from a local moon-sighting effort and others follow an announcement from elsewhere, so neighbouring mosques can legitimately begin a day apart. Follow your own mosque's announcement.

What time are Sehri and Iftar in my US city?

The table on this page gives the first day's Fajr (Sehri ends) and Maghrib (Iftar) times for ten US cities, calculated with the ISNA method. Open your city's timetable page for the full 30-day calendar, the Asr columns for your madhab, and the Jafari view.

How do I pay Zakat in the USA?

Use the Zakat calculator, which works in US dollars with live gold and silver prices for the Nisab and produces a PDF record. Zakat is due on your hawl anniversary, though many people move payment into Ramadan; Zakat al-Fitr is separate and should be paid before the Eid prayer.

Is this page the same as the United States Zakat page?

No. The United States Zakat page (/country/united-states/) is the country Zakat calculator page — Nisab in dollars, payment guidance and worked examples. This page is the Ramadan guide for the USA: dates, moon sighting, city timetables and month planning. The two pages link to each other.
