Welcome to the ZA home of ZakatSuite — the fast page for Zakat in South Africa, priced throughout in ZAR. Everything here is in ZAR: the Nisab converted at reference metal prices, an example calculation in South African rand, the usual ways people pay in South Africa, and Ramadan 2027 with its timetable links. For the long-form guide with the full method, continue to the South Africa Zakat guide after this page.
At this page's reference prices — ZAR 1,398 per gram of gold and ZAR 18 per gram of silver, converted at 18.3 ZAR per dollar — the two weights price out as follows for South Africa. Scaled to the Nisab weights, that is ZAR 122,340 for 87.48 grams of gold and ZAR 10,982 for 612.36 grams of silver. Snapshots is the right word: the calculators fetch live prices the moment you use them, and Zakat law judges your wealth against the Nisab of your actual due date, not of the day you happened to read a web page.
Take a concrete case in South Africa: a resident holds 100 grams of gold — worth about ZAR 139,849 at the indicative per-gram price on this page — plus ZAR 16,473 in savings. Combined zakatable wealth is ZAR 156,322. That clears the Nisab comfortably and, after a full lunar year, the Zakat is 2.5% of the combined figure: ZAR 3,908. Notice that the gold is not tested against the gold Nisab on its own here — in a mixed portfolio the assets are valued together in ZAR and tested once, which is how the calculators on this page proceed.
In daily practice, the Zakat of most households leaves through a small number of well-worn channels: charity platforms and mobile giving apps, payroll deduction schemes offered by some employers and community collection points and food banks during Ramadan. What is owed was settled before any channel was chosen when the net wealth met the Nisab and the 2.5% was applied — so choose for reliability: a channel that identifies eligible recipients properly and transfers ownership fully. If your Zakat leaves South Africa, confirm that the receiving end is Zakat-eligible and not a general appeal, and keep the confirmation alongside the PDF report for that year.
The zakatable list for a payer in South Africa is the universal one — balances, savings, metals in any form, resale stock, business receivables, investments and crypto at market value — with anything held in another currency converted into ZAR first. What does not count: the home you live in, your car, furniture and personal effects, and wealth you do not truly own or cannot access. The order never changes in South Africa: and the worked example above shows the shape of it in South Africa: 100 grams of gold and a savings balance, combined, tested once, and charged at 2.5% after a hawl.
Ramadan 1448 is planned from Monday 8 February 2027 in South Africa as elsewhere, always subject to moon sighting and the announcement followed locally. The last ten nights begin at Maghrib on 27 February 2027, and Laylat al-Qadr is sought on the odd nights that open on 27 February, 1, 3, 5 and 7 March the likeliest, the 27th, opening on the evening of Friday 5 March 2027. Expect the last fast on 8 or 9 March 2027, with Eid al-Fitr on 9–10 March 2027. The day-by-day table lives in the Ramadan 2027 timetable for South Africa — Pretoria; remember that Fitrana is due before the Eid prayer, not after it. In Pretoria, day one runs from Fajr 04:25 to Maghrib 18:55. Other cities in South Africa with their own calendars: Johannesburg, Cape Town — browse them all from the Ramadan 2027 timetables index.
On reference prices, ZAR 122,340 for 87.48 grams of gold at the reference ZAR 1,398 per gram used on this page. It is a moving figure by design: and the calculator's live ZAR value on your due date is the binding one. Of the two thresholds it is the higher, in South Africa that is ZAR 10,982 at the same reference prices.
With cash and mixed holdings, start with silver (ZAR 10,982) — the threshold the majority of contemporary councils advise, in South Africa as elsewhere. Holdings that are gold and nothing else follow the gold Nisab under every school — the disagreement is only about money and mixed wealth. If your wealth sits between the two thresholds, so take the pair of numbers to a scholar you trust rather than choosing by the size of the bill.
Your due date is personal, not national: the Hijri anniversary of the day your net wealth first crossed the Nisab. Count it in lunar years of 354 days; so the Gregorian date moves about eleven days earlier each year. If you pay in Ramadan for the multiplied reward, as many in South Africa do, provided an earlier hawl is not left unpaid in the meantime; advance payment is valid, delay without excuse is not.
Online payment from South Africa is well established; what matters is the destination, not the medium. Eligibility and transfer are the tests — that the recipient falls within Quran 9:60's categories, and that the money is truly theirs once sent, not merely pledged. Use a platform's Zakat-specific fund where one exists, and keep both together for next year's reconciliation.
Every day's six times for the capital — Fajr to Isha — are tabulated on the Ramadan 2027 timetable for South Africa, with Sehri (Fajr), Sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, Iftar (Maghrib) and Isha for every day from 8 February 2027 onwards. Times are calculated for the capital; if you live far from it, allow for your local difference or check your mosque's timetable.
